About the position
“Together We're Better” childminding is an on-site licensed program to support newcomers with infants to preschool children. This allows parents to attend English classes, meet with settlement counsellors, participate in employment services, and engage in other in-house services and activities. The program is managed by certified Early Childhood Educators, assistants, and volunteers. It focuses on the child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development while supporting parents and caregivers.
What you'll do

Childmind/care for children and ensure the preparation of healthy and nutritious snacks.

Ensuring children's safety by identifying and preventing potential risks and health hazards and promoting good personal hygiene and hand washing, as well as assisting in housekeeping duties (e.g. ensuring toys, furniture, and equipment are appropriately cleaned and sanitized)

Provide a stimulating, caring, inclusive, safe, and clean environment to children aged birth to school age.

Coordinate all activities and duties in relation to the successful operation of the licensed childminding facility and other childmind and parent support programs. Ex: Support and supervise staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and reporting.

Oversee children's registrations and schedule orientation for children and parents.

Ensure daily communication and support for all parents and families of the children.

Deliver complimentary programs such as iPALS, Early Years Bridging Program, Comfort, Play Teach (CPT), and Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) through Zoom to parents and their children on special in-person events.

Staying updated on current developments in childcare and continuing to upgrade skills.

Liaise with other program staff, especially English (LINC) Instructors and Settlement Counsellors.
- Organize and coordinate regular Childmind staff meetings.

Prepare the schedule, including all staffing vs. ratios and activities.

Manage program supplies and operational inventories.

Perform other child and administration duties as required and where appropriate.
What you bring
-
Valid BC ECE/IT license as defined by contract funding regulations and provincial licensing regulations with a minimum of 3 years caring for children

1+ year experience in evaluating and developing curriculum materials, providing activities and facilitating play-based activities for children and their parents/caregivers

Current First Aid Certificate

Up-to-date immunization records and TB test

Experience working with immigrant populations and/or diverse cultural backgrounds and/or comparable education or other program or project specialties

Knowledge and awareness of childhood development, programming and curriculum development

Knowledge of the needs and interests of children and their families from diverse communities who face multiple barriers as immigrants/refugees; must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural, spiritual and lifestyle diversity

Administration skills and experience in office operation
- Proven computer literacy skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet)

Willing to work with the Childmind Coordinator with a flexible schedule from Monday to Friday
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; instructional communication and leadership skills

Ability to be task-orientated, work independently and in a cooperative team environment

Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing); and a second language or culture an asset

The successful candidate will be passionate and tactful, have effective interpersonal skills, high integrity and ethics, and good physical abilities, including sitting, standing, bending, and lifting 50 lbs.
