Why work for us?
Live
The Yukon is a magical destination. Voted cleanest air in the world by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2011 and Most Entrepreneurial Mid-Sized City in Canada by Canadian Federation of Small Independent Business in 2018. Whitehorse, the capital city at approximately 33,000 people, is large enough community that has the creature comforts of a city but small enough to be a large part of the community if you so choose (ie walk down the street and get honked at by people you know driving by or be a part of one of the over 600 non-profit organizations up here). If you prefer even smaller than the next largest community is Dawson City at 1500 year around people. Additionally, living in the North comes with tax break incentives and funding support for individuals and families which makes it even more attractive especially in light of Whitehorse being just over a two-hour flight from Vancouver or Edmonton!
Work
NVD is a company made up of self-starters and entrepreneurs in real estate, hospitality, and development. Supported by a senior management that has a breadth of knowledge across many sectors and a relationship reputation, NVD fosters those who seek long term career growth. While many staff continue to work long term through numerous positions, others seek to branch out on their own and we have witnessed success from both sides. NVD tries to ensure that all staff are competitively compensated and there are bonus programs, staff functions, and various benefits such as extended health care or educational learning opportunities taken care by NVD to be competitive nationally.
Play
Locals say you are 10 minutes from nowhere and the truth is if you love the outdoors then the Yukon is one massive playground. With over 19 hours of daylight (and 24 in some parts of Yukon), summer brings hiking, mountain biking, canoeing (or kayaking), and ATVing. For the winter, while days are shorter locals still play skiing (both downhill and cross country), snowshoe, snowmobiling, and of course aurora viewing of the Northern lights.
And if you are someone who is more of an indoors person, it is easy to make friends and have numerous people to hang you with. Add in the aforementioned 600 Non-Profits and it is hard to find a free weekend in the Yukon where there isn’t a fundraising event or special weekend attraction. NVD is a proud sponsor of many community events and as an employee there are many opportunities for access to these events for free!
