The search continues for a few good men or women to represent Canada at Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).

As the Official Supplier of Online Recruitment for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), Workopolis is assisting in the recruitment of 25,000 qualified volunteers to represent Canada at the 2010 Games. VANOC requires a diverse volunteer team with a variety of backgrounds and experiences in order to make the Games a success and reflect Canada’s diverse culture.

“The volunteers make our experience unforgettable,” said short track speed skater and multiple medalist Marc Gagnon “In fact, during the Lillehammer 1994 Winter Games, a volunteer went beyond the call of duty and agreed to take pictures for me. Had it not been for him, I would have had to have relied on press clippings as souvenirs!”  Gagnon most recently won two gold medals and a bronze at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games.

While The Olympics are known as an international showcase of high-calibre competition and athletes, the success of the Games relies heavily on a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers. And, the volunteer experience demands quality career characteristics like leadership and philanthropy.

“Halfway through the Opening Ceremonies in Torino, Michael Schumacher's red F-1 Ferrari raced onto the stage and carved the five Olympic rings right in front of where the Canadian team was sitting,” noted Russ Howard, gold medalist in curling at the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games. “Through the smoke, I could see this elderly Italian volunteer jumping up and down with tears in his eyes and shaking his fists in the air as he watched with so much pride. I realized then that he was not there for the free ticket to the Opening Ceremonies, rather he was there for the same reason I was - he was just proud to be representing his country.”

Although the Games will be held in Vancouver and Whistler, they belong to all Canadians. They provide all Canadians with the opportunity to support their country and their athletes.

“I’ll never forget seeing the crowd of volunteers as I approached the start for my first race in Salt Lake City,” said Beckie Scott, silver medal-winner in the women's team sprint with Sara Renner at the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games and gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games. “What was especially incredible was that I recognized so many of them from home. One of these volunteers confided to me that even though they weren’t really supposed to cheer for any of the athletes, they were going to bend the rules for me.”

Everyone who applies for a volunteer role will become part of the 2010 Champion team.
